krav-maga
It is impossible to speak about Krav-Maga without first looking at the life history of its creator.
Imi Lichtenfeld was born in Bratislava, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, on 26 May 1910. During his youth in Europe, he distinguished himself as an athlete, training in several disciplines such as boxing, Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, jujutsu, swimming, and even trapeze and knife throwing. He became a European champion in boxing and Greco-Roman wrestling and also ran one of the largest waltz schools in Vienna.
world war 2
During the Second World War, he joined the Czech Legion, fighting against the Nazis. After the war, he moved to Israel, where he became part of the Jewish resistance and developed combat techniques to support the country’s fight for independence. With the founding of the State of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Imi became the Chief Instructor of Self-Defence and Physical Training for Combat, a position he held until his retirement in 1966.
After retiring, Imi founded two dojos in Israel and trained his first ten students. In 1977, together with his student Yaron Lichtenstein, he founded the Bukan School of Krav-Maga, with the aim of preserving the true essence of Krav-Maga. Imi passed away in Netanya on 10 January 1998, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the martial art he created.

BUKAN
The Bukan School of Krav-Maga was founded in 1977 in the city of Rehovot, Israel, by the creator of Krav-Maga, Imi, and his most senior student and professional successor, Yaron.
Today, Bukan operates in 14 countries across 5 continents, with thousands of students in more than 110 cities worldwide.
Since its foundation, the School’s sole objective has been to maintain, preserve, and protect Original Krav-Maga, exactly as it was created by Imi in Israel, without any alterations or omissions.
Bukan is not a federation, confederation, or association, but a Krav-Maga SCHOOL.
andré guimarães
I am a Brazilian Krav-Maga instructor certified by the Bukan School of Krav-Maga, following a special instructor training with Grand Master Yaron Lichtenstein, held in May 2022. I currently hold the brown belt and have been practising Krav-Maga since 2018. Throughout this period, I have taken part in several official training programmes with worldwide certification.
I have always had a strong connection with martial arts, but it was in 2017 that I began formal training. That year, I started practising Aikido, where I achieved the 4th Kyu (purple belt).
Grand Master Yaron Lichtenstein has lived in Brazil for over 20 years, which allowed me to develop a close and direct connection with the original lineage of Krav-Maga through long-term training and personal guidance.
